Not E3 2022 is in full-swing - see everything in our E3 2022 hub, as well as our complete round-up of everything announced at Summer Game Fest 2022. ![]() Whether it will also support local or online co-op like Swords Of Ditto does remains to be seen, though.Īlas, The Plucky Squire isn't due out on Steam until 2023, but in the meantime, why not stick it on your wishlist, eh? We don't see them in the trailer, but the artwork suggests we'll get a wizard with a paintbrush (someone get Chicory on the phone), and a goblin pal who seems to be wielding a pair of drumsticks. Jot will be joined by a handful of friends on his journey, too. ![]() Something circular and conducive to side-scrolling shoot 'em up-ing anyhow. Or maybe it's this world's version of Lego. BUT: Plucky Squire seems to be the game that's most suited for a mass market, say Switch and console release. It looks like he'll be able to jump into all manner of other objects round the room, too, including a mug and what appears to be a big plastic chocolates tub. Checked for recent game releases, sales numbers for Return to Monkey Island and Cult of the Lamb, the upcoming releases of Wizard with a Gun and Talos Principle. When the malevolent Humgrump realises he's the villain of the book - destined to lose his battle against the forces of good for all eternity. What starts out looking like a cute 2D Zelda-like set inside a children's storybook suddenly transforms into a Toy Story-esque romp where your little squire goes clambering around said child's little bedroom. The Plucky Squire follows the magical adventures of Jot and his friends - storybook characters who discover a three-dimensional world outside the pages of their book. Honestly, I didn't see that 2D-3D twist coming at all. There's sword-fighting, Punch-Out!!-style boxing, top-down adventuring, sides-crolling sh'umping. In fact, I reckon it might just be every single game in one, going by that trailer. Made by Jonathan Biddle of Ditto fame and former Game Freak artist James Turner (who worked on Pokemon Sword and Shield) who have banded together to form new studio All Possible Futures, The Plucky Squire is a gorgeous blend of 2D cell-shading and stunning 3D playroom environments. See what I mean in the reveal trailer below. Just like the key ability in Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.Well, isn't this a lovely surprise? Arguably the highlight from Devolver's Countdown To Marketing stream this evening, The Plucky Squire is the next game from the creator of Swords Of Ditto - and it looks an absolute peach. He can then run around the desk the book rests on, as well as the surrounding bedroom and even flatten himself against various surfaces to traverse. It starts off looking like a simple top-down adventure game, like a retro Legend Of Zelda title mixed with some side-scrolling, but then main character Jot leaves the confines of the storybook and starts walking around in the real world like a 3D platformer. The aesthetic also has similar vibes to the homemade visuals of RPG Time, with the game set in a storybook and the action taking place across its pages. We won’t hold that against him, though, since The Plucky Squire’s new trailer makes for a great first impression, boasting gameplay that looks like a mix between A Link Between Worlds and the 2D sections of Super Mario Odyssey. Pokémon fans best know him as the art director for Pokémon Sword & Shield and for designing a handful of pokémon across the series, including those awful ice cream ones from Pokémon Black & White. Turner’s credits include director on lesser-known Game Freak projects like HarmoKnight and Tembo The Badass Elephant. ![]()
